Description
Used unit in fully functional condition: passive PA flat-panel loudspeaker PL-11BK. The loudspeaker is based on the “Bending Wave Audio” principle and therefore differs fundamentally from classic sound reinforcement enclosures. Instead of a piston driver, a carbon panel as a DML (“Distributed Mode Loudspeaker”) generates the sound through deliberately used resonances. The concept is complemented by a large-area ribbon tweeter element. The PL-11 was developed for venues where particularly even sound reinforcement with high speech intelligibility is required. It is suitable, among other things, for conference rooms, concert halls, theaters and churches. Unlike conventional cone or compression drivers, a bending-wave transducer does not distribute the audio energy as a bundled wavefront, but over a large area and diffusely. As a result, only minor reflections and correspondingly few disruptive overlaps occur on hard surfaces such as smooth walls, glass fronts, stone and wooden floors, or untreated ceilings. This also ensures very clear speech and detail reproduction in acoustically demanding rooms. Measures for room acoustics can therefore generally be omitted with a corresponding system. Another advantage of the flat design is the high resistance to feedback across all supported frequency ranges. An open dynamic microphone can therefore be used directly in front of the loudspeaker without any problems. Feedback practically only occurs under deliberately induced conditions. Despite its diffuse dispersion, the PL-11 delivers a precise stereo image with an exceptionally large sweet spot. Virtually every seat in the audience allows for a convincing listening experience. The dispersion angle is 165° both horizontally and vertically and remains constant across the entire transmission range. With conventional loudspeakers, dispersion increasingly narrows at higher frequencies. Thanks to the broad bandwidth of the DML transducer, no crossover is required in the frequency range relevant to the human voice. As a result, the PL-11 is inherently phase-coherent; the distortion factor is close to the measurement limit. Together, these acoustic properties enable very precise signal reproduction throughout the audience area. With a width of only 93 cm, the flat-panel loudspeaker is particularly compact. A complete system can be accommodated in just a few flight cases and transported conveniently. In addition, the PL-11 is compatible with VESA® wall mounts.
